Easy Water for Everyone marks World Water Day

World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, celebrates water and raises awareness of the over 2 billion people living without access to safe water.

The theme for World Water Day 2023 is “accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis”. According to the United Nations, dysfunction throughout the water cycle undermines progress on all major global issues, from health to hunger, gender equality to jobs, education to industry, and disasters to peace. Leading up to 22 March every year, UN-Water runs a public campaign and people all over the world hold events to increase awareness.

Speaking at the event, the Country Director of Easy Water for Everyone, Mr. Harrison Matti urged participants to be change agents in their daily endeavors. “When you go back home, tell a friend to be the change you want to see in the world, and that is part of making sure that there is good sanitation and that everybody is drinking clean and safe water: he added. He further reiterated plans to expand and complete six other (6) water stations in addition to the sixteen (16) already installed in the island communities within the Ada East District. He expressed excitement about the female representation in the quiz competition.

The District Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited, Mr. David Nyawunu underscored the need to preserve water bodies for a better tomorrow. “It is therefore important that higher value is placed on protecting our water sources and environment to ensure quality water supply even for treatment” he stressed. Other representatives from stakeholders in the water and sanitation sector including Ghana Fire Service, Ghana Health Service, and the Environmental and Sanitation Agency called for concerted efforts in addressing water and sanitation challenges in the district.
